Botanical hummingbird illustration is a John James auboton masterpiece. He took pride in waterbird portraits. John also painted the likes of the flamingo and the pelican. This particular illustration shows Columbian hummingbirds nesting and feeding on a blooming hibiscus plant.

The Columbian hummingbird (most commonly known as an “Anna bird”) and is also native to the west coast of North Africa. The appearance of a female hummingbird differs from a male. The male has a green body with a bright red head, whereas The female Columbian hummingbird is mostly green as shown in the illustration. They also have particularly long slender bills, this allows them to reach the nectar from plants.

The Botanical hummingbird illustration is a standard A3 size fitting. We provide larger art paper prints and also the framed product in our store on Hackney Road.
